Tagged is the eighth episode of the 2002-2003 revival of The Twilight Zone. It first premiered on February 12, 2003.
Synopsis[]
A gang member and tagged named Marcus Fisher (Todd Williams) confesses to murder when a mural painted by the victim transforms itself into a version of the crime scene.
Opening Narration[]
- "Marcus Fisher is a tagger. An advanced man, if you will, for the Ace 3 Deuces, a gang armed with the usual vices, and willing to do anything to show the world just cool rules. Marcus is about to get schooled in a little thing called consequence, ‘cause tonight, just down that alley, he’ll make his own mark in the Twilight Zone."
Plot[]
A young criminal named Marcus Fisher shoots a young artist painting over his mark to join the Ace 3 Deuces. However, he sees that the young man’s mural is changed to show his crime. The next day, after covering up his corpse and almost getting caught, he talks to one of his friends, who was in the city council, about it, and he is upset that he would resort to tagging to join the Deuces. Later, he keeps thinking of his crime while in the shower. He talks to his girlfriend, who dismisses it as a guilt trip by his subconscious. That night, he gets a tattoo and is initiated into the gang, but still thinks about the murder. Later, he is shown a magazine that shows Henry Santos, the man Marcus killed. Marcus lies to hide his guilt, but takes a look at the mural to see that is a white man that shot Santos. Later, he once again manages to cover up the crime, and the mural is soon restored only to show that the killer is him. His girlfriend still thinks he is threatened by guilt, but he leaves. The councilman informs that the police has a report on Santos’s death, that the killer wouldn’t kill him. Marcus denies his guilt, but his friend thinks he is afraid of the truth or what the Deuces will do. Later that night, he tries to tell someone, but fails. His girlfriend believes him about the mural, and they see it. The Deuces are impressed about the work done on it. After trying to cover up the mural once more, Marcus gets a tattoo of the crime and he confesses to the crime of shooting Santos, and he is arrested. The episode ends on a mural of “The Twilight Zone” logo that Forrest Whitaker painted.
Closing Narration[]
- "Mark on the wall, ink under the skin, easy enough things to remove with enough pain and effort. But only an act of contrition could erase the tag on Marcus Fisher’s soul... in the Twilight Zone."
